Braised Cabbage Bohemian Style

- 2 pounds green cabbage shredded or thinly sliced
- about 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion about 7-8 ounces diced into small cubes
- 3 ½ ounces smoked bacon sliced into 1" pieces
- 2 teaspoons of salt or to taste
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- 3 tsp sugar
- juice of half a lemon
- 1 tsp coriander seeds - lightly crushed
- 3-4 tsp flour
In a deep fry or sauce pan with a thick bottom, warm the oil, then add the bacon and onion. Fry until the onion is transparent.
Add the shredded cabbage, stir. Cover the pot with a lid and simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes.
After the 30 minutes, add the salt, black pepper, coriander seeds, sugar and lemon juice. Sprinkle the flour on top and mix everything together well.
Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat for an additional 7-10 minutes.
To serve: place the braised cabbage in a deep dish and serve as either a separate dish or as a side dish to meat.
